Most of you have probably seen “The Tourist” and think it is a bad movie. However, I think it is one of the best movies for dreamers like me who love fashion, traveling and a juicy love story (although some question that as well). I re-watched it again just to get re-inspired and here are my favorite shots from the movie.

It Can’t Get Better Than This

I know we all have them (inspirational posts) – but we can’t do without them either. For me, this editorial is brilliant on several levels: photography, editing, modeling, ambiance and setting, styling… The editorial of Arlenis Sosa for the May 2011 issue of the Spanish magazine Yo Dona (“The Lady”-I think) was styled by Amparo Utrilla and shot by Miguel Reveriego. What I like the most is how this beautiful Dominican born model dons a different look on every photo – sexy, classy, playful, peaceful, sophisticated…

Turban Fashion

Turbans have been in and out of fashion over the last decade but they went mainstream last year when we spotted them on the set of Sex and the City. Turbans are back full force for spring as well as shown in the collections of Jason Wu and Issa.

This is your opportunty to step out of your confort zone. Lisanne in Atlanta did and she rocked it.

Oxford Styling

Yesterday, I found this great post by the one and only the Sartorialist. Instantly I fell in love with the model’s look and I was on the hunt for her red and white “candy dipped” shoes. They are known as Oxford or Brogue and originated from Scotland and Ireland. So, I am on the hunt for some leather Oxfords, hopefully two-toned with patent leather. Here is a selection I had fun with on Polyvore.

Empress Theodora and Coco Chanel

Hello everyone,

First, here is a little history behind the Chanel Metiers D’Art Collection 2011 Paris-Byzance. Every year since 2002, Karl Lagerfeld shows support to Chanel’s Métiers d’Art by dedicating an annual collection to them. Métiers d’Art include seven specialist craftsmen - Lemarié the feather specialist, Lesage the embroiderer, Desrues the costume jeweler, Massaro the shoemaker, Maison Michel the milliner, Goossens the goldsmith and Guillet the floral accessory specialist. These collections typically celebrate a city that is a part of Chanel’s history. Back in the 1920′s, Coco Chanel drew inspiration from Byzantine history to create her jewelry. In this collection, Karl Lagerfeld draws inspiration from Empress Theodora, a Byzantine empress, whose ambition is similar to that of Coco Chanel.

Karl Lagerfeld gives a contemporary spin to the opulence of Byzantine culture. The predominant materials are tweeds woven with gold thread, textured knits, and silk. All of the materials are heavily embroidered to resemble ancient mosaics. Accessories, from bangles and earrings, to headpieces and necklaces, are intricate with gold, glass beads, precious stones, and filigree gilt. Lavish over the knee boots and sandals, smaller handbags, red eyeliner for make up, and updo hairstyles complete the looks.

I truly enjoy this collection not only because it is beautiful but also because it reminds me of my own culture and history.
