Make Sure You Produce “Evergreen” Content for Your Website

If you are looking for ways to build more traffic for your site, and if you have been reading about it for a significant amount of time, than you are probably feeling both discouraged and excited right now. You’re probably feeling really excited because you are learning all of these different ways to get more traffic to your site and you’re probably feeling excited about getting started with them. On the other hand, you’re probably feeling a little discouraged because there are so many different methods out there that you don’t feel like you’ll be able to implement them- and I’m sure at least one of the articles you’ve read already has explained that you need to implement EVERY traffic building method possible to see any kind of real results. While it can be good to implement a variety of different traffic building methods, you don’t need to overwhelm yourself with them. In fact, building traffic, especially traffic that lasts, often comes down to just a few simple core tenets. evergreen content One of the most important of these tenets is making sure you produce “evergreen” content.

So what is “evergreen” content, and why is it so helpful when you are looking to build a large following of traffic? It’s simple, really. Evergreen content is a lot like evergreen trees- it’s always in bloom. Evergreen content is content that is always valuable and always worthwhile. It doesn’t go out of season, it isn’t tied to a specific time period or a specific day or even necessarily a specific location. Evergreen content is totally universal content. When you focus on this kind of content, you are focusing on producing great work that will be as valuable in a year from now as it is this very moment. In fact, truly universally valuable work should be just as valuable 10 years from now, or even 100 years from now.

I know this sounds like a stretch, but go to any bookstore or library and you’ll see tons of books that are just as applicable today as they were when they were written. Most of these books were written decades ago, or centuries ago, and some were even written millennia ago. Yet they are still helping people through their lives to this day. This is the level of content that you should strive to produce.

So much of the internet is disposable and designed to only be relevant in the moment. So many people online are simply chasing the hot new thing, or are chasing the trend of the moment, or something that is in the news this week. Not only is that a thankless job, but it also means that everyone is writing about the same stuff at the same time. When you produce truly timeless content, that content is going to stand out if for no other reason than the fact that it isn’t what everyone else will talk about.

And when your website has a large stash of timeless content on it, that means that new visitors will have a lot of content to go back on. Timeless content not only will help you build traffic in the moment, but it helps you turn those visitors into loyal, lifelong readers.
